Govt Revamps NAAC Accreditation Process for Colleges and Universities

After various complaints and recommendations regarding the problems in the accreditation process, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has changed the accreditation framework for colleges and universities.

In its new framework, the council has introduced a Student Satisfaction Survey (SSS), data validation and verification (DVV), onsite assessment, system generated scores (SGS) along with peer review given by visiting teams.

The weightage of peer reviews has been brought down in order to reduce corruption and improve transparency in the process. Various other features of the accreditation framework have also been revised.

According to the officials who were in on the restructuring of NAAC accreditation framework, the new system is expected to be more transparent, robust, objective, Information Communication Technology enabled and scalable. The revised process will be operational from this academic session itself.

System generated scores and online evaluation has been introduced to collect more accurate data about the institute, the official added. Following is the weightage given to different aspects:

In the revised system, NAAC will also provide provision for third party validation of data. Apart from this appropriate differences in metrics, benchmarks and weightage have been introduced for autonomous institutes as well as colleges affiliated to universities.

The official also informed that the enhanced participation of students in the accreditation format. The new framework will enable students as well as alumni to put forth their perspective about their college or university.

For this purpose, student satisfaction survey (SSS) has been introduced by the government and NAAC. This step has been taken to ensure the quality and efficiency of the process as students are the main stakeholders.
