Haryana Govt to start Agro Business School for Farmers

Haryana government will soon start an agro-business school to help farmers and educated them about market trends and changes in business scenarios that will help them to sell their produce directly to consumers and earn better profits.

Om Prakash Dhankar, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Haryana, made the announcement at ‘Kisan Sangoshthi’ on Tuesday, November 22, where he was invited as the chief guest. He also said that it is essential for the farmers to adopt the crop cycle and crop management practices as they are needed for the changing business landscape.

He also talked about the international fruits and vegetable terminus that is being set up in Ganaur as it is geographically suitable to focus more on the packaging of crops and will help in executing loss management and transportation management. The minister also said that Special Purpose Vehicle are being set up for this task.

He further added that owners of big companies market and sell their produce by setting up stalls in the Agro-tech and farmers can use the same approach to directly sell their products to improve their business.

The Minister informed the farmers about the peri-agriculture initiative in National Capital Region (NCR) under which farmer’s attention will be diverted towards horticulture and other cash crops. The step has been taken to meet the demands of fruits, milk, dairy products and vegetables in that region.

Under the ‘Bhoomi Sudhar Karyakram’ initiative, farmers were provided with gypsum and other nutrients on subsidized rates in order to preserve the fertility of the land. Various new techniques of agriculture are also being experimented so that the per acre income of a farmer could be at least Rs.1 lakh, added the minister.

The Minister also said that the Central Government has given approval for establishing a Horticulture University in the country that is being set up in Karnal. The university will also have three regional research centers.
