<p>Haryana is all set to get its first horticulture university in Karnal. The state Cabinet has recently approved the ordinance for setting up the varsity.
It has also been decided that the land of 97 acres which belongs to Regional Research Station, HAU should be transferred to Horticulture Department.
The decision was taken after realizing the importance of horticulture and the immense need of its further expansion in the state.
The CM of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar approved the ordinance and suggested to set-up three Regional Research Station for the same. Ambala, Jind and Jhajjar are the places where these centres will be opened. Notably, Khattar represents Karnal constituency in the state assembly.
However, the Research Campus of the University will be established at village Munak, in Karnal.
With the setting up of the University, the trained manpower in the field of horticulture would be available in the state, said the release.
A Working Group has been also set-up comprising of Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture, Vice Chancellor, HAU, Hisar, Vice Chancellor or his representative, University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan (Himachal Pradesh), Head of Horticulture Department, HAU, Hisar and Director General, Horticulture.
“The draft bill of the Horticulture University has been prepared in consultation with the Working Group after studying the Acts of HAU, Hisar, Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LLRUVAS), Hisar, Horticulture Universities of Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka and other Private Universities of the state”, the release said.
