HRD Ministry to Spend Rs. 418 Crore on Collaborative Research with Foreign Institutes
MHRD will officially launch SPARC (Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration) on October 01, 2018. The new scheme will facilitate joint research collaborations between Indian and international institutes.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has officially announced that it would spend Rs. 418 crore for collaborative research between Indian and international institutes under SPARC (Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration). HRD Ministry will launch the SPARC scheme on October 01, 2018.
One of the top premier institutes in India, IIT Kharagpur will coordinate the scheme. As per the rules, only Indian institutes that featured in the list of top 500 globally ranked institutes will be allowed to collaborate with international institutes. The joint collaboration will boost up the research activities and promote quality research.

Under the SPARC scheme, Indian institutes will take up collaborative research with international institutes in the following areas: -
- Social Sciences
- Technology
- Science
