HRD Ministry Seeks Response of AMU VC Over Financial Allegations
HRD Ministry has sought the response of Zameer Uddin Shah, the Vice Chancellor of AMU over certain allegations of financial irregularities and other improprieties made against him.
Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has sought the response of Zameer Uddin Shah, the Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), over certain allegations of financial irregularities and other improprieties made against him.
An official from the ministry says that the VC's response was sought after Pranab Mukherjee, the President of India gave his approval for a probe into allegations brought in a complaint against Shah. The President is also the Visitor to the University.

The nod of the President comes on a proposal from the HRD Ministry after former Janata Dal MP Wasim Ahmed had given a memorandum while seeking a probe into allegations against the VC.
While defending his stand, the VC of the University has denied all the allegation brought against him.
It is to be noted that the President had also given his nod for a similar probe against RL Hangloo, Vice Chancellor, Allahabad University, against whom also certain allegations were made. Allahabad University VC's response in this regard has also been sought but not a response has been found till now from his end.

One of the oldest universities of India, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is a public central university. The university was established by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875.
It was in 1920 the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College became Aligarh Muslim University. Spreading over 467.6 hectares areas, the main campus of AMU is located in the city of Aligarh. Right now, the university offers more than 300 courses in both traditional and modern branches of education.
AMU has its three off-campus centres in the following places
- Kishanganj (Bihar)
- Murshidabad (West Bengal)
- Malappuram (Kerala)
The university is an institute of national importance and students from all castes, religions, creeds, and genders study here.
