HRD Ministry to Convene Meeting of all MPs on New Education Policy

As per the latest report of HRD ministry, a meeting has been convened for all MPs on 10th November to know the opinions and avail their suggestions on formulating the National Education Policy.

While giving the information, Union Human Resource Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the subject is a national agenda and it is not a political one. The minister mentioned about the same while delivering his lecture at Coimbatore.

He was inaugurating a seminar on “Innovating India’s Schooling’ organised under the aegis of Isha Foundation. He stressed upon the fact that all stakeholders associated with the education sector should give suggestions to make the policy a grand success. He had already held discussions with students and teachers about the problem in the system.

The minister said that as part of the exercise, he had convened a meeting with all the MPs cutting across the political line of various parties on 10th November to shape the future generation. The minister said that national education policy will work on the following five areas like -

  • Accessibility
  • Quality
  • Equity
  • Affordability
  • Accountability

The minister also said that though India has achieved a lot and expanded education for the last 70 years, the country is yet to achieve quality education to reach 70 million students of KG to PG standards. The erstwhile British rulers had structured India's education system to create manpower for their requirements only.

Jaggi Vasudev, founder of Isha Foundation said that India’s education system was mainly a remnant of the colonial agenda. Only small changes have been done but no rethought has been given to the education system here, despite the fact that India is home to one-fifth of the world’s population.
