Justice Suresh Kumar had recently received a petition signed by V.S.V. Dheeraj. In the petition, Dheeraj mentions that he has studied a course that is considered equivalent to MBBS but from a foreign country. On coming back to India, he decided to sit for the MCI conducted eligibility test which will enable his degree to be recognised in both foreign as well as by the Indian Medical Council.

However, his this request was rejected by the MCI. Dheeraj was denied the eligibility certificate which was required by him in order to appear for the screening test of the National Board of Examination. The reason behind MCI’s decision was that when he had joined the MBBS, he did not fit in the minimum age eligibility criteria. The minimum age criteria for the same is that the candidate must be 17 years old and when he applied for the same he had not completed 17 years.

To this, the judge gave the final verdict asking the MCI to provide him with the eligibility certificate and allow him to sit for the eligibility test and also to review the minimum age criteria of 17 years to avoid such cases in the future.
