The Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi, abbreviated as IIIT-D, has announced that it will be collaborating with the British Telecommunications PLC (BT) for developing next-generation quantum security solutions and broadband optical networks. The aim of this alliance is to help sustain the growth and increase of high data rate of telecom services towards 5G.

BTIRC (BT India Research Centre) is focusing on collaborating with academic institutions of India for developing next-generation Information and Communications Technology solutions and networks research. This collaboration will enable IIIT Delhi to work towards the development of Quantum Key Distribution and Elastic Optical Networks (Metro Networks and Inter-city Backbone).

The Senior Manager of Optical Networks Research of BT, Professor Andrew Lord, said that it was a proud thing for BTIRC to be associated with the prestigious IIIT Delhi for providing aid in the research activities done at the institute. He further said that Information Technology is growing in India and that will help BTIRC in providing exciting and innovative opportunities for communications innovation and will also foster the establishment of new alliances between India and the United Kingdom.

BTIRC is a reputed addition to the always growing network collaboration and research facilities of British Telecommunications. BT has its centres in China, Northern Ireland, the UAE, and the USA. The company supports its strategic research agenda for generating greater insight into emerging and upcoming technologies with its research centres around the globe while also formulating new generations of services and products for its customers.

The Director IIIT Delhi, Professor Ranjan Bose, spoke on the partnership and said that the institute has been in favour of getting professionals, students, and businesses at par with technological revolutions as it is a leading research teaching institute itself. As per the Director, such alliances would enable them in successfully creating new technologies that will interface business modules of high efficiency. Eventually, it will improve the revenue of the company and also the living standards of those who use the technology.
