IIM Ahmedabad Students Ditch Corporate Internships, Opt for Social Sector Roles
IIM Ahmedabad students ditched regular corporate sector internships and joined startups, public sector undertakings and NGOs this year. Check out some inspiring interests of IIM-A students here, particularly aimed at social sector and improvement of rural India.
Students of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad have discarded regular sectors when it comes to training options. Instead, they have opted for unconventional roles to pursue internships this year. Students have opted for public sector undertakings, new startups, NGOs and public policy sector while trying to move out of their comfort zone and pursuing work in the social sectors.
Swapnil Chauhan, an IIM Ahmedabad student, has worked with a welfare organisation with an objective to get an insight into rural India. He worked for Internet Saathi, a joint initiative of Google and Tata Trusts that aims to address the huge gender gap in digital literacy in the rural areas of the country. While working with them, he validated project proposals which has also helped him enhance his leadership and analytical skills.

Similarly, Pratyush Pandey worked with Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), a company that offers medical care to patients suffering from cancer, HIV and TB. He performed different types of research and analysis with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to assess the strategy of National Aids Control Organization (NACO) that aims to get rid of HIV by 2030. This project helped him understand the issues related to healthcare delivery.

On the other hand, Akshaya Ganesh interned with the Government of Telangana in the industries department where he handled multiple projects at one time and took crucial decisions in a streamlined manner.
