IIM Nagpur Placements: Tailor’s Son Bags Pay Package of Rs. 19 Lakh

A student from Kollam (Kerala) created history in the placement record ofIIM Nagpurby securing a job with thehighest salary packageofRs. 19 lakh per annum. The 27-year-old Justin Fernandez was the first student of IIM Nagpur who secured such highsalary package. Despite his family and economic challenges, Justin proved his calibre as a successful management professional. A Hyderabad-based company‘Value Labs’offered him a role asassistant directorwith an annual payment of Rs. 19 lakh. The odds of Justin’s family who earlier suffered to make ends meet have ended with his achievement.

Sharing his happiness on the achievement, Justin Fernandez revealed his family was traditionally engaged in the tailoring business. However, the rapid industrialisation had impacted the lives of Justin’s family in a negative way. The presence ofreadymade garmentsin the market took away the employment of those who engaged in the traditional tailoring business. There wasn’t enough work for Justin’s father, and the income of the family started to decline rapidly. After a few years, Justin’s family found it difficult to make both ends meet, he shared.

It was Justin’s aunt who took care of his studies along with his sister until Class 12. Justin’s aunt always believed that the education is the only solution to improve the family condition. With this source of inspiration, Justin proved himself in studies since childhood. Ration through the nearby PDS was the only source of food to Justin’s family.
Justin completedB.TechfromGovernment Engineering College, Trivandrum. The scholarship amount helped Justin to cover his expenses. Before joining IIM Nagpur, Justin worked with a software company for two years. He aimed to secure a seat inIIM Kozhikodeand he did not succeed in the first attempt. Considering the increasing age, Justin enrolled at IIM Nagpur after the second attempt.
