The Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, addressed the students at the third convocation of the Indian Institute of Management, Visakhapatnam on 30th March 2019. In his speech, the Vice President said that a re-orientation of the education system is needed by shifting it away from the colonial mindset now. According to him, it is highly difficult for a nation to meet the challenges of the future if it fails in deriving energy and inspiration from its history.

Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu stressed the fact that education is not only limited to getting employment but it should primarily empower individuals with wisdom and knowledge. He said that ensuring inclusive growth and preventing discrimination of any kind can be possible if every individual had access to quality education at all levels. He also coaxed the students to keep updating their skills and knowledge with the fast-changing needs and demands of the global job market of the 21st century.

Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu said that now is the time for India to emerge as the hub of global knowledge once again. To make this happen, the institutes and universities of learning must reinvent themselves as major hubs that entail vibrant intellectual pursuits and as centres catering to resolute innovation and research.

Shri Naidu also talked about the role of agriculture in the overall growth of a nation. He said that rejuvenating and revitalising agriculture was of extreme importance and no one should ever hesitate in introducing structural changes in the sector of agriculture that can make it profitable.

He further added that the scientists, the government and the agricultural research institutes should unitedly make efforts for ensuring food security and nutritious, home-grown food. He has always believed that India cannot thrive on imported food security.
