IIT Council to Launch Scholarship worth Rs. 75,000 for Innovative Researchers
To encourage good students and motivate them to follow the research path, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Council has decided to start a monthly scholarship worth Rs. 75,000.
To encourage good students and motivate them to follow the research path, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Council has decided to start a monthly scholarship worth Rs. 75,000. The scholarship will be offered to all students who are involved in innovative research initiatives.
The premier institutes of India will also be initiating various short-term and long-term plans to raise the standards of education at IITs. These plans will be started in the coming next three to four months.
The IIT Council is led by HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar. Talking about the future plans of the ministry, the Minister said that the centre will raise Rs. 20,000 Crore for the Higher Education Finance Agency (HEFA).
This money will be raised in a time span of three years through debt instruments. The fund for HEFA will be utilised to fund research infrastructure in the top institutes of the country.

In September 2016, the Government had said that HEFA will be responsible for providing financial aid for the civil and lab infrastructure projects. This financial assistance will be provided through a 10-year loan, added the government.
Javadekar emphasised the importance of these initiatives and said that they will enable the IITs in improving their international rankings and improving their status within the global education society.

Registering the number of suicides on the campus, the IIT Council has also decided to start wellness centres within the IITs. Non-academic induction programmes will also be introduced for the same purpose.
