IIT Gandhinagar and Indian Army To Sign MoU as part of 'Make Projects'

The Indian Army has signed an agreement with IIT Gandhinagar to carry forward research activities on the problems faced by forces of Indian Army and to find out a solution for it. For this purpose, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IIT Gandhinagar and the Indian Army is in the pipeline to be signed on December 27, 2016.

The initiative will be known as “Make Projects" and this is in line with "Make in India" programme of the Central government. This is for the first time Indian Army has come forward to collaborate with an academic institute seeking help to solve its problems being confronted on the border and terrain places.

Subrata Saha Uttam, Lieutenant General and Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Planning and Systems), with other seniors officers, will visit the campus of IIT Gandinagar to sign the agreement.

Professor Sudhir Jain, Director of IIT Gandhinagar said that it is a historic event for the institute and the institute will do its best to provide the best of technical solutions to the problems being faced by the Army of the country. They will identify the problems faced by the Indian Army working in difficult areas and in extreme weather conditions facing the enemy in border areas. The institute will address those problems while taking research and development activities on those issues.

It is to be noted that a team of teachers and students of the institute had visited the base camps of the Amry from November 22 to 26, 2016 to understand the problems that the Indian Army has been facing over the years. The team that visited the Sikkim Border include:

  • Amit Arora - Professor
  • Amit Kumar Singh - a Doctoral student
  • Nidhi Anand - a Doctoral student
  • Mayuri Madhukar - an M. Tech student
