IIT Gandhinagar to Collaborate with Global Institutions for SPARC Projects
The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar has partnered up with various different International Universities and Institutes under the SPARC initiative. IITGN has been awarded over ₹6 crores for the collaboration with these institutions for 10 research projects.
Under the Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration or commonly known as SPARC, the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) will be collaborating with various international institutes for 10 projects that have been approved by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development.
The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar has been known for collaborating with different universities and institutes worldwide for various international and student exchange programmes. The Director of IITGN Prof Sudhir K Jain states that the Indian Institute of Technology has always helped in providing the students with an exposure to the world through global partnerships. MHRD’s SPARC initiative will boost the Institute’s efforts in order to collaborate with researchers and institutes across the world, he added.
According to the reports, IIT Gandhinagar will be collaborating with various researchers and faculty belonging to seven different countries. The countries that are included in the partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar are USA, France, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Israel.
The research proposals that have been put forth by the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar has been awarded around ₹6.63 crores. This has helped the faculty of the Institute to work with the best of the scholars in the world, on different topics that are action-oriented, fundamental researches which are driven by innovation as well.

The projects that have been proposed by the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, are mainly focused on researching renewable and green technologies. Some of the topics that they will cover under the SPARC initiative are affordable healthcare; advanced functional and metamaterials, management technologies for space, aviation, ocean and rivers along with humanities and social sciences, computational and mathematical sciences and robotics and embedded systems as well.

The SPARC initiative has helped the Indian Institute of Technology to work with various different institutes and Universities such as The University of Auckland New Zealand, Flinders University Australia, Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan, France, Duke University USA, University of Witwatersrand South Africa, University of Kingston Canada, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology Israel, among many other universities.
