NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court allowed the IIT JEE Mains aspirants to file a representation before the concerned authorities raise the grievances. The aspirants approached the Supreme Court to challenge the National Testing Agency (NTA)’s notice, dated March 1, 2022 for reducing the JEE Mains sessions from four to two phases.

Earlier, the petition was filed by Sumanth Nookala. In the plea, it was mentioned that only two sessions would be conducted in April and May, 2022, more specifically, only about 45 days before the exam would be scheduled. This would in turn overlap with multiple Board exams. Similarly, a notification released on March 1, 2022 (amended on March 14, 2022) wasn't satisfactory to the petitioners. They raised an argument against the reduction of the number of IIT JEE Main sessions from four to two. The bench supported the petitioners and asked to submit representation to the component authority because the context was in the policy domain.

A bench comprising Justice DY Chandrachud, Bela Trivedi and Surya Kant stated that the Supreme Court does not have the authority to interfere with the policy decision, taken by the authorities. Nonetheless, the bench granted the petitioners liberty for approaching the authorities with grievances. The petitioners counsel also added that the reduction of the sessions could make the JEE Mains exam 2022 more stringent.
