IIT Kharagpur Introduces ‘C Minus 4’ Initiative for Rural School Students
- IIT Kharagpur has started research project ‘C minus 4’ for the students in rural schools.
- The initiative will impart confidence and knowledge to the target group of students.
TheIndian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpurhas launched itsinnovative‘C minus 4′ model for encouraging rural students and boosting their confidence. The new study model has been designed especially for the students enrolled in rural schools toboosttheirconfidence.
The new study model has been under the observation of the professor ofIIT Kharagpur. Students from rural schools are trained and mentored under the C minus 4′ model so that they can guide their juniors who are 4 classed below them.
In the name of theprogramme, ‘C’ refers to class, whereas, minus 4 implies the junior students who are four classes beneath the trained students who will be their mentors.
Professors of IIT Kharagpur andIITMadrashave undertaken the research project in order to determine its potential. Following are the five professors who are currently studying the programme:
- Prof TK Bandyopadhyay from IIT Kharagpur
- Prof R K Pradhan from IIT Kharagpur
- Prof Pulak Mishra from IIT Kharagpur
- Prof P K Bhowmick from IIT Kharagpur and
- Prof Pijush Ghosh from IIT Madras

One of the professors also talked about the research programme and said that the ‘C minus 4’education modelwas designed to enhance the personalities ofschool going childrenin the rural areas during their formative years.
The professor also added that the objective of the initiative is to bridge the gap between qualified candidates andemployablegraduates. The model aims to make the target group of students more confident and knowledgeable, with bettercommunicationandanalyticalskills.

According to the reports of the institute, out of the 66 students from 9 schools who were mentored, 91 percent got better marks, whereas, 74 percent showedimprovementinresults. Also, 81 percent students showed personality growth.
