IIT Kharagpur to Begin ‘Vastu Shastra' Classes for Architecture Students
Apart from UG students, the institute will also give a detailed account of Vastu Shastra to Post Graduate students and research scholars working in the field of infrastructure.
Vastu Shastra is regarded as the foundation of Indian traditional architecture. Most of the ancient buildings in India were constructed as per this traditional subject. With an objective to inculcate the ideas of Vastu Shastra to architecture students, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur has come up with an idea to include Vastu Shastra in the curriculum.
As per the official report that was released by IIT Kharagpur, if architecture students need to become 'well-rounded architects’, they need to have a clear understanding of basic concepts. Therefore, Vastu Shastra will be introduced for the first and second-year architecture students. The classes on the same are expected to begin from August 2017.

Apart from UG students, the institute will also give a detailed account of Vastu Shastra to Post Graduate students and research scholars in infrastructure. After completing the course on Vastu Shastra, the students will have to write assignments, projects and take tests on the subject. These activities will help students to have a clear understanding of the concepts of the subject.

One of the faculty members of IIT Kharagpur said that if the students are taught with a Western background, they should also learn concepts at par with ancient Indian architectural traditions. Usually, people assume that Vastu Shastra is rooted in religion. However, Vastu Shastra has a scientific base and it will provide a good platform to architecture students which will further help them in their career.
The concept of Vastu Shastra evolved in Rig Veda and it is scientific in its tenor. The subject promotes the healthy relationship of infrastructure and nature.
