IIT Madras Asks Students to Help Dhoni Make Vital Decisions for IPL Match
The Indian Institute of Technology has been asking the right questions in the semester examinations by asking the students to apply the knowledge that they gathered in the classroom in helping MS Dhoni with deciding for the vital match with Mumbai Indians.
In the semester examinations for Materials and Energy at the Indian Insitute of Technology Madras, the students were provided with a question related to the Indian Premier League. The question asked the students to help MS Dhoni to decide in the pivotal match which was going to be held between Mumbai Indians.
The question, however, was not asked in a general manner. The students were asked to provide an answer considering various different factors like dew, weather forecast, the temperature, etc to come to a concise conclusion. The question was so detailed that the students had to take into consideration the place where the match was supposed to take place, i.e. Chennai’s Chepauk ground.
The semester end question paper for Materials and Energy at IIT Madras also provided the exact details of the weather like the temperature and the humidity levels, etc. Based on the calculations that the students will have to make, they were supposed to give an answer which stated what MS Dhoni should opt for, i.e. Batting or bowling in the match. The students were also asked to give their justification to their answer, compulsorily, as no points were awarded to answers without correct justification.

The person behind setting the question paper was Professor Vignesh Muthuvijayan from the Department of Bio-Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. The International Cricket Council had seen the question that had been asked and took to Twitter to commend Professor Vignesh for asking questions that are relevant to real life. They further added if anyone could solve the answer.

Sources state that Professor Vignesh had stated that students should have the ability to apply all the information that they have learned in the classrooms. He further added that applying the information that they gained in the classrooms and applying them in real-life situations will help them understand the concepts in a much better way. He stated that the students can analyse the situation prior to the match beginning with the information that they have gathered in the classroom instead of having a fruitless conversation.
