As a part of ‘Study in India’ initiative of the central government, 20 colleges in India are expected to get state-of-the-art hostel facilities to attract international students. One of the government officials revealed that the lack of suitable hostels and food choices turned as a major hindrance in terms of attracting international students. Most foreign students looking for a better hostel facility with suitable food choices. However, most Indian institutes lack the same. As a result, international students are showing little interest in joining Indian institutes, he pointed.

Union HRD Ministry is aiming to increase the number of foreign students in Indian institutes to 0.2 million by 2023. The HRD Ministry received Rs. 779 crore for this purpose. Out of the total funds received, a substantial part of the fund will be used for creating ‘International Student Centres’. These centres provide superior accommodation facility and campuses for international students. The remaining part of the grant will be used for providing scholarships.
