Indian School Students Take More Extra Classes Than Other Countries: Survey

According to the General Education Survey, Indian school students rely on extra classes than another country. However, the survey also reveals that Indian education system is focusing on the overall development of child now than the mechanical education system.

Indian students take more extra classes than other countries across the globe. According to a General Education Survey which was conducted in 10 countries, 72% of Indian students take part in extracurricular activities and 74% of the students play sports regularly in school.

The survey also highlighted that children in India spend more time completing homework. 40% of the students spend two to four hours on doing their homework every day while 37% of students spend the same time doing the homework during the weekend.

The study also revealed about life in schools across the globe for both students and teachers. More than 20,000 teachers and students were a part of this survey. Over 4,400 teachers and 3,800 students from India took part in the survey.

One of the interesting facts about Indian school education revealed by the survey is that the schools in India are moving from mechanical learning culture to the overall development of the students, which is a good sign.

The key points from the survey are as follows:

  • India students take more extra classes as compared to other countries.
  • Indian and Chinese school students take the most number of extra classes (58%)

The survey also revealed that Indian students not only focus on academics but also make use of other learning opportunities so that they can pursue their own interests. According to the survey, there is a positive shift in the teaching culture of Indian schools.
