Simon Baker, Editor, Times Higher Education informed that India’s performance in the terms of employability has not been very consistent. The annual ranking was launched in the year 2011 and since the only three institutes from the country have managed to make a place in the list of top 150. India is yet to make a reputational ground with employers as compared to other Asian nations.

However, there has been a significant improvement this year for India. In the 2018 global listing, Indian Institute of Science is on 28th position and IIT Delhi has bagged 53rd position from 145th last year. The reports reveal that most countries give value to soft skills like communication, unlike China where practical skills are valued most. It also reveals that 90% of the employers in the US give value to critical skills whereas in China it fell to 75%.

Laurent Dupasquier, Managing Partner of Emerging said that the workplace today is ever changing and therefore it is very important to update the skills regularly. Universities should try to instill in students the capacity to adapt and to keep learning throughout life. The university-industry partnership will also help in increasing the value and will provide students with necessary practical knowledge.
