The two-day International Students’ Fellowship Day-2016 ended at Raj Bhawan on May 18. The programme was organised at the initiative of Governor of Assam, PB Acharya.
International students studying in Indian Universities likeNIT Silchar,Dibrugarh University,IIT Guwahati,Assam University Silchar, and Tejpur University under the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) programmes were invited by the Governor to attend the meet. Around 115 students from different countries around the world like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, Kenya, Syria, Uganda, Cameroon, Mongolia, Congo, Palestine, Burundi, Zambia, Rwanda, Sudan, Lesotho, Eritrea, Nigeria, Botswana, Fiji, Thailand, Yemen, Myanmar, Vietnam, Egypt and Maldives participated in the programme.
Foreign students spoke on the occasion and expressed their experience in Assam. Some of them also sang songs on the occasion and said that their stay in Assam has been a wonderful experience with friendly and helpful people around.
During the meet, the Governor told the students about India's diversity and its democratic values. "We are a democratic nation and everyone has one vote," he said. He also requested foreign students studying in Assam to become goodwill ambassadors of India in their respective countries once they return home. Along with this, he also urged on providing students with a fellowship family each so that they could come closer to the people by understanding their lifestyle. He encouraged the students to study with their whole heart and achieve their goals.
A Satriya Dance, a Goalpariya Dance and a Bihu dance was presented on the occasion which the international students enjoyed thoroughly.
