National Institute of Technology, Silchar (NITS), Engineering, offers the courses in the domain of engineering. NITS Assam was established in 1967 as Regional Engineering College. It received NIT status in 2002, declaring it as an Institute of National Importance. It is one of the 30 NIT’s in India. The college does a lot of pro bono work for the social and economic development of the region. NITS’ aim is to establish itself as a producer of first-rate professionals and researchers in the field of technology for regional, national and global progress. The college’s mission is to find talented individuals and train and educate them into technocrats and to inspire them to change the world for the better. The college supports the students’ entrepreneurial, innovative and neoteric skills so they can solve problems in low-tech environments employing high-tech solutions. Some of the highly qualified, and experienced faculty members are Professor and Director N.V. Deshpande, Professor Asim Kumar and Professor Asis Datta. The objective of the institute is to impart the best technical education at both the Under Graduate and the Post Graduate level, so as to train the students to be able to boldly face a world that is being transformed by scientific and technological advances. NITS has a 600-acre campus with world class infrastructure facilities.
