Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, popularly known as IIT Guwahati, was founded in 1994 as part of the prestigious IITs. It has been able to construct a world-class infrastructure for advanced research and has been equipped with state-of-the-art scientific and engineering instruments in less than a decade. The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati campus is spread out across a 285-hectare piece of land. It is 20 kilometres from the city that students can reach it via university transport. The campus provides a great academic environment as it is nestled within the Brahmaputra on one side and hills and large open spaces on the other. IIT Guwahati has been ranked 7th under the ‘Engineering’ category and 9th under the ‘Overall’ and ‘Research Institutions' by the NIRF India Rankings 2023.

Currently, the Institute comprises eleven departments and five inter-disciplinary academic centres that offer B.Tech, B.Des, MA, M.Des, M.Tech, M.Sc, and PhD programmes in all major engineering, science, and humanities areas. IIT Guwahati aims to pave the way for its students to fulfil the institute's quest for greatness. These tactics comprise the Vision, Mission, Goal, and Values, which will help IIT Guwahati become one of the world's top academic institutions. The strategies will provide teachers and students with new possibilities to expand their knowledge, conduct cutting-edge research, and build professional skills. IIT Guwahati admission to various courses depends on the merit of the students and scores on the entrance exams as well.

The ultimate goal at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is to provide students with an educational experience that stresses creativity, social awareness, professional ethics, and leadership development. A creative atmosphere is also being built to encourage creativity and entrepreneurship among researchers while maintaining long-term aims and sustaining the highest professional ethics and enriching the lives of people. IIT Guwahati placements are also noteworthy.

Overall: The College has a pretty campus with lakes, parks, gardens etc. There are management and humanities courses despite being a Tech college. The teachers teach well.

Placement: The placement of engineering is quite good. For humanities its average as few get placed but with NGOs and the department has its own placement cell as the tech companies don’t hire us much.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure is classy. The building are pretty awesome and classrooms have modern tech and we can hear from last bench too. The Rand D looks quite pretty.

Faculty: They teach well. They are from good colleges as per my experience with humanities department. The faculty try to give their best in class and teach with conceptual clarity especially history.

Hostel: Mess is good of Lohit hostel. The games room has all equipment. There is canteen facility and we get good biryani there. The girl wing has single rooms with attached washrooms.

    IIT Guwahati -brief review

Overall: IIT G has a very good placement,a better College life.As you know ,it has the most beautiful campus among all IITs spread over 700 acres full of lakes and pretty views.Overall the campus so peaceful. What you need?if you are getting best college life, best facilities, best placements along with an "IIT Tag".Now I would like to tell you some demerits, first of you may struggle to understand some subjects due to proffers teaching methods and most of the time you will have to study from you batchmates instead of profs.Overall this is the one of the best engineering College in India, you must consider this if you have a good score in JEE Advanced.

Placement: As you all know,All the IITs have decent placements.IIT G has a very good placements though it has decreased during this year due to recursion.CSE has a average pakage of 40LPA ,ECE,EEW has around 26-28LPA & core branches have around 19LPA.

Infrastructure: IIT Guwahati has a decent infrastructure. There are 13hostels inside the campus, most of the hostels are in good condition though some hostels are damaged too.The most beautiful building is the auditorium,it has a capacity of around 1000 people.

Faculty: Proffesers at IIT Guwahati are at different level. Most of them are very friendly and teaches in a nice way.though some of the profs don't teach with their full potential & you will also get to meet with some rude and frustrated profs but that's a part of college life. You don't need to.worry about studies ,your hostels friends will teach you better than profs.

Hostel: Hostels are the most important part of college life.In iits hostels have a different lagacy, there should be a hostel spirit in each student. You are provided with double.occupancy room in your 1st year of btech & you will get single occupancy in your 3rd year. All the hostels have canteens, juice centres & stationary shop facilities. There is also a competition "GC" among all the hostels, where you make memories and enjoy alot.

Overall: It was never the plan to get into iit guwahati (same for everyone) but on the counselling i liked it above others. But after reaching the campus ,I was literally mesmerized by the beauty of this campus

Placement: Ya everybody gets a very good opportunity here to grab a pretty decent offer.u can easily get it jobs being in any branch. Branch doesn't matter much here until and unless it's about CS. U CAN GET GOOD JOBS !

Infrastructure: There are various new building like core 5 . But the best thing is not in the buildings but in the 5 in campus lakes , greenery of the campus , and beautiful hills. One can easily be amazed by this 750 acres of pure beauty.

Faculty: Nobody studies in class ,either if u r a nerd or something like that . We really enjoy watching reels in class. Some profs are pretty good so u can watch them teach but most of the time I study on the last day

Hostel: There are 12 hostels in our campus .each having something nostalgic about it . Personally my hostel is Kapil ( small but a very supportive hostel) . Teasing other hostel and being competitive is the fun part of the hostel life .

    Dear Student,

No, it is mandatory for all the candidates to qualify GATE exam and acquire the minimum GATE Cutoff for admission to IIT Guwahati in M.Tech Course. The minimum eligibility for the course is to pass a B.Tech degree from a recognized institute with a minimum of 60% (55% for reserved categories) of marks.
