ISC and ICSE students must prepare themselves mentally for the next academic session as there might not be moderation policy. CISCE or Council of Indian School Certificate Examinations advised the principals of various schools to spread the word among the teachers regarding the moderation policy. It seems like CISCE is not in favour of the moderation policy. Once the verdict of Supreme Court is out, all the state and central boards are likely to meet to frame a policy on the issue.

Experts feel that moderation policy is a mere policy of lifting the pass percentage. Apart from high scorers, moderation is not beneficial for other students. Evaluators often increase marks correspondingly for high scorers to maintain fairness in the evaluation policy. Due to this, many students secure more than 95% marks. Earlier, there were many instances where more students secured 95% and above marks in the board examinations.

An administrator associated with a reputed school revealed that they have been waiting for the final decision. He was of the view that the HRD Ministry might not support the moderation policy. The principal of another school was of the opinion that there was no uniform policy of ‘moderating marks’ and HRD Ministry must frame specific guidelines for the same.

Administrators of few school indicated that pass percentage will fall drastically if the marks are not moderated. Without moderation policy, many students might fail in subjects like English, Physics and Mathematics. The reputation of a school is also questioned if there is a dip in the pass percentage and performance of high scorers.
