Jamia Students Innovate Drone Detection Software for Security of Airports
A six-member team of students from Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI)of FTK - Centre for Information Technology (FTK-CIT) has developed a software to detect unwanted drones at airports or nearby restricted air spaces during the recently held Smart India Hackathon
A six-member team of students from Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) of FTK - Centre for Information Technology (FTK-CIT) has developed a software to detect unwanted drones at airports or nearby restricted air spaces during the recently held Smart India Hackathon 2017. The team won the title of 'Nav Parvartak' (New Innovator) and was awarded Rupees One Lakh.
A total of 54 teams from top engineering institutes and universities in India had participated in Hackathon 2017 which was held in Allahabad.
According to a statement from JMI, Jamia's Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship has collaborated with the Computer Science Students for supporting them in their projects.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) had asked all the competing teams to develop a system to help secure air spaces from any kind of unwanted drone intrusion. For accomplishing this task, the teams were given 36 hours. The students are delighted as AAI will now be introducing the system for the safety and security of airports and air spaces nearby.
Another team of six students comprising of five 3rd year students and one final year student of the same department were given Rs.10,000 as consolation prize for developing a system for Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to protect ISRO's mailbox from receiving any unwanted mail or spam using the Deep Learning Technique in a competition, INSIGHT JMI which was held in Ahmedabad.

One more contribution from the third year students for developing a technique that would not only read indexed medical research papers but also non-indexed research works. This system will be adopted by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). They were given the third position under 'MESH YOUR WAY-OUT SYSTEM' held in Kolkata.
The Director of FTK-CIT Department, Prof. MN Doja and the Director of Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Dr. Zainul Abdin Jafrey along with Professor Tanvir Ahmad of the Computer Science Department in JMI have played a major role in guiding the students to achieve the task.
