Jharkhand state cabinet has given its nod to give university status to Ranchi College on Tuesday, October 12. The proposal to make the college a deemed university was sent by the higher and technical education department.
The cabinet meeting of 11 members of the ministerial council was headed by Chief Minister Raghubar Das. Das also approved a grant of Rs.55 crore so that the infrastructure of the college can be improved and it fulfills all the norms set by the UGC for achieving university status.

The cabinet also upgraded 189 middle schools in 23 districts to higher secondary schools. The cabinet also set in motion a new financial security scheme for the teenage girls of the state named 'Tejaswini Yojana', that was initially proposed in December 2015.
The scheme has been launched to offer financial assistance to girls of age group 14 to 24 years. Skill development training will also be provided under this scheme, said Surendra Singh Meena, Cabinet Coordination Secretary.
Around 32 lakh girls across 17 districts will benefit from this scheme by 2019. Rs. 540 crore has been granted for this scheme. The first phase will be implemented in Ranchi, Chatra, Khunti and Dumka.
New posts in Jharkhand Biodiversity Board have also been approved by the cabinet. Among these are the post of Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) ranked IFS officer, who will be the president and the member secretary respectively.

The cabinet also eased up the exam rules of the state's superior judicial services. Now the differently-abled candidates will be given an extra compensatory time of 20 minutes for one scheduled hour of examination.
