JNTU-Hyderabad Engineering Colleges Fail to Implement Biometric Attendance
One of the officials associated with JNTU-H revealed that these colleges did not buy biometric devices and they are not at all interested in implementing the system.
A total number of 100 engineering colleges affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad failed to implement the biometric attendance system. The deadline set by the varsity is over and still, these colleges did not take any step regarding the biometric attendance set up.
One of the officials associated with JNTU-H revealed that these colleges did not buy the biometric devices and they are not at all interested in implementing the system. He further added that most of the college managements cited lack of financial resources to implement the system. On the other hand, some of the colleges trashed the system saying that it is an unnecessary restriction on teaching faculty.

K. Ramadas, President of Telangana Pharmacy Colleges, indicated that the system must be implemented in all the educational institutions starting from KG to PG. He criticised the varsity for implementing biometric only in private professional colleges. He further expressed that teachers should not have restrictions as it is a professional job and they work for 24 hours. Therefore, asking teachers to punch in and punch out regularly does not make any sense.

He explained that JNTU has no right to deny recognition to private colleges on the grounds of biometric attendance system and it is not valid as per the guidelines of University Grants Commission. He expressed that it is tough to implement the system in the middle of the semester. Most of the colleges did not receive reimbursements so far, and they are facing financial crisis.
N. Yadaiah, Registrar of JNTU-H, clarified that the colleges would not receive affiliation if they do not implement the biometric attendance system. As of now, only 10 percent of colleges purchased the devices, and 90 percent of colleges are yet to implement the system.
