After the demonetization and subsequent difficulties faced by people all over the country and thereafter the appeal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the premier Central University of the country Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has started its campaign to go cashless economy in the campus encompassing its students, faculties members and students.

The digital financial literacy cell of the University has started the campaign to use online transactions and for that, the administration has planned several programs including workshops to encourage the use of online payments and keeping e-wallets for daily expenditure in the campus. The communication and information services (CIS) of the University will offer training, digital financial literacy, facilitate access to machines and execute online payment systems at the university.

M Jagadish Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of the University said that he has instructed that all financial procurement process, both official as well as non-official, be done through the e -transaction.

The VC also said that special session on the cashless transaction will be organised by the CIS to make JNU students, staff, and faculties to be aware of the online system on campus. The University is also making every effort to improve the online infrastructure so that everyone in the university is benefited from the move.

In a tweet, the VC stated that shopkeepers inside the campus have already taken to cashless transactions. Now efforts are on to make all transaction cashless in the hostels completely.

Chintamani Mahapatra, Rector of JNU said that has requested all students of JNU to take the role of volunteers as to help those who in need of to learn on digital modes of payment.
