The Teachers’ Association of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNUTA) will conduct talks with the President Pranab Mukherjee to discuss issues of the university. The Teachers’ Association will be putting forth the issue of misrepresentation of facts in front of the President in his capacity as the Visitor of JNU.

The Teachers’ Association states that a lot of false allegations have been made during the recently held Executive Council (EC) meeting. The meeting was held to pass various criteria related to admission and fees.

The teachers’ association seeks the President’s help and have requested him to invalidate the meeting. They are also going to stage a one-day strike for the same. On a General Body Meeting (GBM) held on Friday, January 6, 2017, JNUTA decided to take the discussion forward.

Various decisions were taken during the executive council meeting. This included the decision to give 100% weightage to interview for admissions to MPhil and Ph.D. programmes, the VC getting the power to intercede in the appointment of experts for the selection committee that looks after the recruitment of professors.

The GBM has also asked to withdraw the suspension of nine students. According to the administration, these students were trying to disrupt the Academic Council Meeting. GBM says that these students must be given their registration back in this semester itself along with a complete restoration of hostel facilities and student fellowships.

Students have openly protested against the decisions taken at the Executive Council meeting. They have also stated that the suspended nine students were not involved in any disruptive activities.
