The Government of Karnataka has decided to challenge the Karnataka High Court single bench order in divisional bench on 50:50 weightage for KCET 2022 repeaters. The government will file the petition on September 6, 2022, at the High Court divisional bench. Education Minister Ashwathnarayan indicated that the government will make sure that everyone gets justice, and 1.5 lakh fresh students' KCET ranks 2022 should not be affected.

Here's What Dr. Ashwathnarayan Said about the Government's Decision

Minister of Higher Education of Karnataka has announced that justice will happen to 1.5 lakh students if they consider High Court's order on awarding 50:50 weightage for repeater students. The government will approach the court again with appropriate documents, the minister confirmed.

KCET 2022 Repeaters Issue: 1.5 Lakh Fresher’s Ranks to be affected

With the latest order of the High Court, almost 1.5 lakh fresher students’ KCET ranks 2022 are going to be affected. As the KEA has to revise the ranks of repeaters by including PUC marks, the ranks of fresher students will undergo major changes. An official of the Education Department commented that the Karnataka Examinations Authority has gone through the court order thoroughly and approached the Chief Minister of Karnataka on what needs to be done about the revised rankings.

As PUC exams were not conducted in 2021 in Karnataka due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the students were declared ‘qualified’ as per their previous academic performance like PUC 1 and Class 10. Therefore, there is still confusion on how KEA is going to determine the ranks for repeaters by including PUC 2 marks.

Karnataka HC Order Unfair: Fresher Students Express Disappointment

After the High Court order on September 3, fresher students expressed their disappointment. They opined that they had studied hard for board exams for one year and repeaters did not take any board exams in 2021. The students expressed that the court decision is unfair. By giving justice to 24,000 repeater students, it would be an injustice to at least 1.7 lakh fresher students.

Students are advised to wait for the decision of the Karnataka Government on how it is going to award revised rankings for KCET 2022. Official information on the same can be expected anytime soon.

As the Government of Karnataka wants to challenge the High Court order and approach the apex court again, the counselling process of KCET 2022 will further be delayed. Therefore, a decision has to be taken as early as possible by the government so that the admission process will not be affected.
