In order to spread awareness among the DU students about the rise in mobile phone thefts, North Campus cops adopted an informative yet unique way.

What is the unique way?

Cops themselves are stealing phones from students to teach them a lesson.

Why?

While a student is speaking on the phone, a well-dressed woman, driving a Brio approached her. She pulls down the window panes of her car and stops by the student. Then the lady asks the student if she can use their phone as the battery of her own phone is dead and she does not have a charger. She converses with the student in fluent English and asks for the phone. As soon as the student hands her the phone, she speeds away in her car.

The same has been noted as a pattern in several robbery cases around the Delhi University Campus. Sometimes the woman is also accompanied by a man.

Keeping this in mind, the cops of the Maurice Nagar police organized an awareness drive to spread awareness among the students regarding mobile phone thefts recently.

How?

However, the method adopted by the cops as a part of the awareness drive was a bit different. The cops tried to imitate the tactics of the thieves by doing exactly what they had done in previous theft cases.

Similar to the above-mentioned case, two cops, dressed in plain clothes, asked a passerby for phone and as soon as the student gave them the phone, they drove away with it to teach them a lesson!

One of the students asked constable Naresh Kumar from the Maurice Nagar Police Station for help and he then chased down the car on his motorcycle.

When the girl demanded the reason behind the same, Virender Singh and Gurdeep Kaur explained that they are cops from Maurice Nagar Police Station and this was a drive which they are conducting to be more careful while helping someone.

Apart from mobile theft, the students were also asked to be more careful and watchful while walking on the road or traveling in rickshaws.
