KVS Admission Guidelines Revised: Centre scraps MP quota to free 40,000 seats in KV
KVS Admissions discretionary MP Quota has been scrapped by the government in an action that would free over 40,000 seats in Kendriya Vidayalas across India. The revised guidelines for KV Admission were issued on April 25, 2022. Read below for more information.
KVS Admissions: Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has scraped the discretionary Member of Parliament Quota. This decision comes after a week since KVS had put admissions under the ‘special provisions’ quota on hold which also included the KVS Special Dispensation Admission Scheme, often known as the MP quota. Under this, an MP in the Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha could propose a maximum of 10 students from their corresponding constituencies for admission in classes 1 to 9.
This major decision taken by the government will free up to 40,000 seats in Kendriya Vidyalayas. MPs had long demanded that the MP quota be abolished or that the number of students who could be admitted on the grounds of recommendations be increased as this MP quota had also affected the overall ratio of reservations in schools for SC, ST, and OBC students.
According to the revised standards, children orphaned as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic would be regarded for admission over and above class strength under the PM CARES for Children Scheme. Such children would be admitted based on a list provided by the District Magistrate of the respective District, with a maximum of 10 children per KV and two children in each class. These children will be exempted from the payment of tuition fees, computer funds, and VVN from classes 1 to 12.

Other quotas eliminated by the KVS include the exemption of 100 children of Ministry of Education personnel, children as well as dependent grandchildren of MPs and the retired KV staff, and the Vidyalaya Management Committee Chairman quota amongst others.
"The revisions were adopted by the Sangathan after a careful thought process," said a senior officer at KVS. "Under the special provisions of the admission, in place of the eliminated quotas, certain additional quotas have been added as well."

According to a list provided by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the new quotas include 50 seats for wards of central police organisations (Group B and C) under MHA who have been posted for domestic security, border defence, disaster management, and other critical areas.
