Local Colleges - A Popular Choice for MBBS Admissions in Panjab

After Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) had uploaded the first allotment list on Friday, Ludhiana’s Dayanand Medical College (DMC) and Patiala Government College were most sought-after for MBBS programmes among top rankers.

After Dayanand Medical College (DMC), Sri Guru Ravi Das Medical College, Amritsar, was the next popular choice for the students. Jalandhar-based Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) is at the bottom of the choice list.

In the second round of counselling, experts saw a significant improvement in the cut-off ranking. The second round counselling session will start with fresh choices on September 21.

A majority of the students were allotted seats on Friday, and have joined other colleges already, based on their NEET ranking.

Some of the students who joined other colleges are:

• Vardhman Mahavir Medical College, New Delhi
• Chandigarh Medical College

An expert revealed that in the year 2015, the last allotment in the government colleges was to a candidate with a rank of 480. So, now the authorities are hopeful to see an improvement in the second list.

Also, there is the likely conversion of vacant NRI seats in government colleges to the general pool. They have 41 seats under the NRI category that can be transferred. However, the only problem is that the petition is pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

All students who have been allotted seats on Friday, 16th September will have to report the concerned college latest by 20th September.
