Maharashtra Govt. to Introduce Professional Degree Courses

HRD Minister Javadekar confirmed that the Maharashtra government will introduce professional courses for students to increase their employability. The government is planning to introduce B.A., B.Sc and B.Com programmes for this purpose.

Prakash Javadekar, Union HRD Minister said that the government is planning to introduce professional bachelor programmes to increase the employability of graduates. The government is planning to introduce B.A., B.Com and B.Sc programmes which will offer students with 1,000 extra hours of courseware along with the regular courses.

He also informed that the new courseware will have 250 hours each of computer skills and soft skills and 500 hours of one or two course-specific skills. It will increase the employability of the students and enable them to get suitable opportunities. On the other, there are millions of educated students without a job.

Therefore, students are advised to pick skill-based courses that can get them jobs easily. New courses launched by the government are a part of its effort to equip graduates with skills required by the industry and nature of jobs available.

Javadekar informed about the launch of new courses through a video conference at the Skill India - The Way Forward in Higher Education event, which was a three-day seminar organised by TISS. The seminar was attended by many eminent personalities such as Sudhir Mungantiwar, Maharashtra state Finance Minister and Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education, and others.

During the apprenticeship, students will align skills with demand which will improve the employment process on its own. Meanwhile, Aseem Gupta, Secretary, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department, Maharashtra said that they have asked all the universities of the state to introduce skill-based courses so that students don't have to spend an extra year after graduation to learn a skill.
