A new statement by the Maharashtra government will now be a blessing for many. Recently, the state government clarified details regarding a past rule passed by the government which had affected a huge number of students adversely. Earlier, it was decided that students belonging to a private college will not be allowed to take admission in a government or aided colleges by transferring themselves mid-session. Now it has been clarified that this rule will not be applied to students who had taken admission prior to academic year 2016-17.

Three students belonging to Rizvi Law College challenged the Rule 17 of Maharashtra Unaided Private Professional Educational Institutions. They were studying law and had completed their first year at the college but were barred from transferring or taking admission in a government college.

A new circular was then issued by the government. According to the circular, the rule would not affect the students who are already in college.

The three students hired an advocate, Yasmin Tavaria who questioned the authorities and the rule in favour of the children and said that it was discriminatory and arbitrary. On August 22, it was decided that the rule will not be mandatory for those who have taken admission in colleges prior to 2016-17.

This circular issue will help all those who have taken admission prior to the year 2016-17 and now want to shift from an unaided and private college to a government and aided college.
