The Medical Council of India (MCI) has announced the rules basis which students passing out from NIOS will be eligible for MBBS or similar courses abroad.

The rules have been defined for students who have pursued intermediate education from National Institute of Open School (NIOS) and have not taken practical exams in chemistry, physics, and in class 11 and 12.

The MCI released a circular stating that students passing out from Open Schools will not be eligible to pursue MBBS or equivalent courses outside India. The council has also informed that it will not be accepting any applications to grant eligibility certificate to students seeking admissions in foreign medical institutes from the session 2017-18.

MCI further added that the students will not be given eligibility certificates until rules are introduced to facilitate the same. The decision will affect thousands of students passing out from open schools.

MCI had also released a circular on August 9 stating that various students who have passed 10+2 from NIOS and SOL were applying for the eligibility certificate for admission to MBBS courses offered by abroad universities.
