Meet Abhishake Meena, a NREGA Labourer’s Son who made it to IIT-Delhi

Abhishake Meena is a resident of Chatrapura, a small village in Etawa, Kota was oblivious to the existence of IITs till Class 10 but secured a seat for himself in IIT Delhi. A NREGA labourer’s son, Abhishake is the first student from his village who made it to IIT and yet he became the first person from his village in Kota to make it to the prestigious institution.

18-year-old Abhishake secured 257 rank in IIT-JEE 2016 among the reserved category students. He is currently pursuing Industrial Production in the Mechanical branch at the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi.

Recalling the days when he scored 72% marks in Class 10, he said that his school teachers motivated him and his family to get him enrolled in one of the coaching institutes in Kota to prepare for IIT. That was the first time he had heard about the premier technical institutes of the country, recalled Meena.

Abhishake talked about his preparation and said that although he took coaching only for IIT, his teachers at the coaching center helped him by providing notes so that he could do well in higher secondary education as well. He scored 83% marks in Class 12.

Although he had cleared JEE in his first attempt, he didn’t get any college. Learning from his first attempt, Abhishake reappeared for JEE in 2016 to stand up to the expectations of his father, Ramdayal, who had borrowed money from a local lender so that his son could crack JEE.

Abhishake hopes to change the lives of all the talented youth in his village after completing his education from IIT. Ramdayal is proud and ecstatic with the success of his son as he is the first to qualify IIT from their village.
