Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Gujarat Education Minister, said that in all possibilities HRD minister would declare this decision within a week. He was speaking in a programme, organised for the release of a question bank prepared by the Gujarat State School Textbook Board (GSSTB) in Gandhinagar. He also said that the issue was raised during a meeting with Prakash Javadekar, HRD Minister. He also assured that the students’ concerns will be the centre point of any decision taken in the entrance test and there is a possibility that this exam will be conducted in Gujarati in 2017.

Another major decision, to be announced, in the lineup, is that the HRD ministry is expected to expand the implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act. Secondary and pre-primary classes could be included under the purview of the right of children for free and compulsory education.

The minister also said that right now the RTE Act is for the age group of 6-14 years. This has proved to be detrimental to the quality of education in the last several years. Once RTE is implemented it is expected to expand till class IX and X. It can help improve the quality of education. The state of Gujarat has sought a month’s time to revert with its inputs on this decision. An education team from the state would be attending HRD ministry’s next meeting scheduled to be held on 25th October.

Adding to that, the minister said that a question bank for students was a decision taken after the Supreme Court’s verdict on NEET and now it has mandatory for all states. For the first time, such an exhaustive supplementary material is prepared for the students appearing for the exam like - NEET/ JEE/ AIPMT/ GUJCET/ AIIMS.
