MHRD Plans to Set Up National-Level Madarasa Board

Members of National Monitoring Committee for Minorities’ Education (NMCME) of MHRD have initiated the process of capturing details of unregistered madarasas across the country. The idea is to set up a national-level Madarasa Board with a relevant system for accreditation to ensure their academic standards.

NMCME panel member, Mr. Afzar Shamsi recommended that all the details with regard to unregistered madarasas must be acquired. There are only 20% registered madarasas functioning across the country while 80% of madarasas are unregistered. The government has the data of only registered madarasas, he pointed out.

With the data acquired, the government will bring all the unregistered madarasas within the ambit of registration. The data of such madarasas will be recorded for future reference.

Another member of NMCME, Mr. Jamshid Khan indicated that Madarasa boards in some states are inoperative. Only a limited number of states have madarasas. For instance, Maharashtra does not have any Madarasa board. Therefore, a national-level Madarasa board is necessary to mitigate the deficit, he added.

One of the members of NMCME, Mr. Suman Kumar explained that the Madarasa board should be linked with the Skill Development Council. In order to enable the spread of information amongst the madarasas across various states, there is a need to spread an awareness campaign in the areas where NMCME members can contribute, he highlighted.

The setting up of national-level Madarasa Board will boost up the monitoring of minority education in the country and the ongoing schemes of the MHRD.
