MHRD Urges PU to Encourage Students to Take Up Online Courses
In a move to boost the anytime anywhere online education, HRD ministry has written to Panjab University to encourage the students to take up online courses in their University.
In a move to boost the anytime anywhere online education system, the HRD ministry has written to Panjab University to encourage students to take up online courses offered at the University, and further uplift the concept of e-learners. The move will help in bringing down the cost of the education. The proposal for the same will be placed at the next meeting of the syndicate of the University.

The University Grants Commission in its guideline told stated that there will be three types of courses namely Foundation, Elective and Core. In the Core course, students will have to study the course in all the semesters. Elective course will offer an expanded scope and give an exposure to other disciplines. The Foundation course will be a value based course. There will be a ten-point grading system for the proposed online courses with the option of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). The letter also stated that the University will have the freedom to decide on the course implementation.
The course comes under the ‘Study webs of active learning for young aspiring minds’ or SWAYAM, which will additionally introduce a list of the online courses that will be offered in the upcoming semesters every year.

Moreover, it also known that PU will become the first university in the country to issue digital degrees. These degrees will be issued from the next academic session 2017-18. Students will no longer be required to wait for the convocation to get their degrees as they will be available digitally. As soon as the university announces the results, student's degree will be found in the National Academic Depository (NAD). Digital depositories will store the academic award in the digital format with integrity. Students will be able to access their academic degrees with a set password only.
