Mizoram University Students Strike, Demand Appointment of Vice Chancellor
- Mizoram University has been functioning without a regular Vice Chancellor since 2015.
- CM of Mizoram wrote to Prime Minister of India seeking the appointment of VC as early as possible.
Students of Mizoram University called for a strike demanding the appointment of a regular Vice Chancellor which continued for the second consecutive day. The students have boycotted the classes, both academic and non-academic. The Chief Minister of Mizoram appealed to the Prime Minister of India through a written statement on 6th September 2017 to appoint a VC as quickly as possible. The Ministry of Human Resource and Development confirmed that the matter relating to the appointment of VC has been taken up afresh.

CM of Mizoram indicated that the state government had sent the request to HRD Ministry for the appointment of regular Vice Chancellor for the only central university in the state last year which is still pending. Mizoram University has been functioning without a regular Vice Chancellor since 2015. He indicated that any further delay in the appointment of VC would jeopardize the future of students.

Since September 6, 2017, students have been boycotting the classes and restricting the teaching and non-teaching staff from entering the campus. It is time for the HRD Ministry to initiate the process and make the appointment as early as possible.
Students also claimed that the development activities of the university would be restricted without a regular Vice Chancellor. They also mentioned that the degree certificates issued by the varsity would carry no value without the signature and attestation of regular Vice Chancellor. Therefore, they demanded the government to appoint the regular VC immediately.
