Mumbai University may Exempt Law Faculty from Online Assessment
- At present, law department has 100 faculty members, out of which most are practicing lawyers and it is impossible for them to devote time to online assessment.
- The approval will provide the faculty with the freedom to assess papers as per their schedule.
The University of Mumbai is planning to exempt the law faculty from the onscreen marking system. Rashmi Oza, Head of the Law Department, Mumbai University addressed the issue to Vice Chancellor and stated that the law faculty should not be involved in the online evaluation system. The issue was raised by the faculty, students and officials due to delay in the declaration of results of law students. The delay in the law result is affecting the academic calendar of the university.

Oza stated that the delay in the result is due to the unavailability of teachers and faculty in the law faculty. As most of the teachers in the university are practicing lawyers, it is difficult for them to make time for online assessment.
At present, law department of the varsity has around 100 faculty members, out of which more than half are practicing lawyers and it is impossible for them to devote time to online assessment on working days. However, the manual assessment process provides the faculty with the freedom to assess papers as per their schedule and they need not tag themselves onto the system.
The manual assessment process will speed up the resulting process which will help to get the academic calendar on track. Although the proposal regarding the online assessment is yet to be approved, the faculty is eagerly waiting for the varsity to giving their approval regarding the same.

Devanand Shinde, Vice-Chancellor of the University has formed a three-member committee to look into several matters related to engineering colleges affiliated to the Mumbai University. There were several reports from the students that the engineering colleges were unable to complete the course on time as faculty members refused to teach because their salaries were pending.
