Mumbai University Regular Students Shift to Distance Courses
- 100 students pursuing regular B.A and B.Com courses from Mumbai University moved to open school due to poor attendance.
- These students have not been debarred but have been given the option to pursue the same courses in distance mode.
TheUniversity of Mumbaihas directed 100 regular students pursuingB.Com and B.A coursesin varsity and itsaffiliated collegesto seek admission indistance learning coursesoffered byInstitute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), Mumbai University. These students have been moved to B.Com and B.A courses in distance mode due to poor attendance percentage in regular courses. Instead of permanently debarring the students, the varsity allowed them to pursue the same courses in distance mode.
Several students frompopular colleges affiliated to Mumbai Universitywere debarred from pursuing the regular course as they failed to maintain the minimum attendance percentage prescribed by the varsity. These students were detained for the examinations. Since many students demanded relaxation, the varsity allowed them to enrol inIDOL. The decision was taken by Academic Council of the varsity.

Many universities follow at least75% of minimum attendancein each semester to be eligible for the exams. If students fail to maintain the minimum attendance, they will not be allowed to appear for exams. It is mandatory for students to appear for a minimum number of classroom lectures to appear for the exams. Universities take stringent measures against students violating the mandatory norms.
