National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) Celebrates 7th Annual Foundation Day

Mohali based National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute, on Saturday, 18 February 2017 observed its 7th foundation day at the premises of the institute. It is an autonomous institute supported by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.

Institute carries out research in different areas of biotechnology such as -

• Biotechnological applications at the intersection of agriculture
• Nutritional biotechnology
• Application of biotechnology in food

Students, 200 scientists and staff from the institute participated in the function. Besides that, many heads of the institutes and students from Trichy region also joined the function. The chief guests of the occasion were Professor B P Pal, Chair and Project Director, ICAR and Prof. Nagendra Kumar Singh.

Singh delivered his lecture on the theme of decoding the genomes of crop plants and its importance in India.The executive director of NABI, Dr. T R Sharma highlighted the achievements of the institute. In his speech, he said that NABI is poised to play a very important role in generating world-class knowledge in the field of agri-food and health security. The institute is working on strategies to overcome anti-nutritional activity. It has also been working to make food crops of better quality.

National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute was established on February 18, 2010. It aims at catalysing the transformation of Agri-food sector in India. The institute has been working on different domains like Agricultural Biotechnology, Human Resource Development, Food and Nutritional Biotechnology, Technology Transfer and Outreach. The institute has strong linkages with national as well as international organisations, and industries.
