NEET 2017 Scores to be Accepted at Colleges across Kerala

After much deliberation, the Government of Kerala has decided not to conduct its separate exam for admission to medical and dental colleges across the state. The decision was made on Tuesday, December.

Admissions to all medical programmes including the allied, AYUSH, veterinary and agricultural programmes from the 2017-18 academic year will be done solely on the basis of NEET exam. The conducting body for NEET exam is Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Commissioner of Entrance Examination, Kerala will also be releasing a notification regarding this development.

As per reports, Chief Minister of Kerela, Pinarayi Vijayan called a cabinet meeting regarding the matter and after much discussion it was decided to make NEET the only medium for entrance to medical as well as allied programmes.

Till the session 2016, state level entrance exam-KEAM was the basis of admission to around 1,895 MBBS and 840 BDS seats across Government Controlled as well as privately self-financed medical and dental colleges in Kerala. Although introduced in 2016, NEET exam score was not considered for admission to the medical colleges of the state.

However, NEET has now been made mandatory for admission to all MBBS and BDS seats across all the states in India. On May 9, 2016, the Supreme Court had ruled that all medical and dental colleges are bound to admit students on the basis of their NEET score. Initially, the decision faced a lot of opposition from the privately governed colleges but was later widely accepted by all.
