The National Board of Examinations or NBE that conducted NEET-PG 2017 examination officially announced that the NEET-PG 2017 cut-offs have been reduced by 7.5 percentile. Usually, the qualifying cut-off for General Category is 50 percentile, 45 percentile for PwD category and 40 percentile for SC/ ST/ OBC categories.

Revised NEET-PG 2017 Cut-Offs: -

  • General Category – 42.5 percentile
  • SC/ ST/ OBC Categories – 32.5 percentile
  • PWD Category - 37.5 percentile

These revised cut-offs are applicable only for this year. According to the norms of Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000, the central government can lower the cut-offs after holding consultation with Medical Council of India or MCI. Usually, the central government takes this step only if fewer candidates secure minimum marks in the entrance examination, i.e., NEET-PG 2017.

Most of the state governments requested the centre to reduce the NEET-PG 2017 cut-off score, as many of the seats might remain vacant due to lack of a sufficient number of candidates who secured minimum qualifying marks.

Now, around 9,000 candidates are expected to be benefitted with the revised cut-off scores. Most of these candidates have a chance to get admission to PG medical courses for the academic session 2017-18. As per the central government, the deadline to complete the PG medical admissions for all the states is May 31, 2017.

This year, private medical colleges declared the fee structure for PG medical courses under NRI and management quotas. The fee structure reveals that the medical education in the country has become a costly affair. Most of the colleges are collecting Rs. 35 lakh to Rs. 71 lakh per annum for the admission under management and NRI quotas.
