NEET UG has been made mandatory for BSc Nursing by the HC. An appeal had been made in the Delhi High Court recently to challenge the decision made by the National Testing Agency (NTA) which had notified via its official website that clearing the NEET UG examination was a pre-requisite for admission to the BSc Nursing courses in premier nursing institutions of the country. The appeal was preferred from the orders given by a Single Judge who refused to interfere in the matter any further.

The court refused to push the appeal through any further because even if the applicants were not appearing for the Military Nursing Service, they would still be seeking admission in BSc Nursing courses across the country. Therefore, ultimately, it made no difference.

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Sachin Datta also settled the plea by stating that this case was in no way different to the already judged case of Saloni Yadav where it was maintained that the decision of the National Testing Agency (NTA) to include a mandatory NEET UG qualification as an eligibility criteria for BSc Nursing in Military Nursing Service courses was completely valid. The counsel had argued back that the Military Nursing candidates had different eligibility criteria and that their exam was conducted by the Director General of Military Service. The HC considered these arguments of no severe importance or relevance.

Moreover, the appellants have been provided enough time to prepare for the NEET UG 2022 examination which is to be conducted in July 2022. The appellants have countered by saying that the candidates have been preparing for the BSc Nursing exams for over an year based on prior syllabus and the new eligibility criteria of clearing NEET UG 2022 came as a surprise to them and lowered their morale and confidence.
