5 out of the 57 medical colleges approved by the Supreme Court are found to be in no position to admit students in the college anytime soon. The colleges are lacking in terms of faculty, operation theatres, intensive care units (ICUs) and have incomplete buildings.

These findings were revealed on investigating the five medical colleges that are located 50km to 100km from Delhi.

Some of the findings were as follows:

With no patients and non-functional OTs and ICUs, the KM Medical College and Hospital, Mathura and Venkateshwara Institute of Medical Sciences, Gajraula were virtually locked.

There were only a few patients suffering from a headache and stomach ache at Venkateshwara.

According to the rules set by MCI, it is mandatory for a college to have at least 60% bed occupancy before they can admit students in the college.

On investigation, it was found that in NC Medical College and Hospital, Panipat, World College of Medical Science and Research, Jhajhar and Rama Medical College and Research Centre, Hapur, only 10% to 20% beds were occupied by patients.

When the college authorities were asked to comment on the same, three of the colleges said that they will work on improving the facilities. One of the colleges denied that they are lacking in facilities and the Rama College didn’t respond.
