While lambasting the Gao Government for its inability provide permanent Padma Bushan awardee physicist, Shri Krishna Joshi "I don't know how the NIT Goa director pulled the institute along for the last five years from such a temporary premises. This convocation shows how makeshift arrangements can be made. I know how difficult it is to do what an NIT is supposed to do from such a transit premises. The state of Goa must do its duty of allotting land to the institute. There will be students coming out of the institute who will make us proud.”
It is to be noted that the first batch of NIT Goa, which consisted of 100 students, completed their BTech programme in 2014 and the second batch of 112 students have attained their degree in 2015, both from the temporary premises at Farmagudi.
Ironically the present institute is functioning from a sole building located in the Goa engineering college complex, while NITs elsewhere operate from premises within mini-townships, completely self-sufficient infrastructure.
While Goa government officials state land identified for the permanent campus for NIT Goa at Cuncolim is in the final stages of award to the institute and the land is yet to be handed over to the NIT despite several requests from the institute.
V K Aatre,Padma Bhushan awardee said, "My close interaction with the faculty has convinced me that we are imparting the best possible education to the youngsters within the constraints imposed by the limited infrastructural facilities available at the disposal of the institute.”
